Velzeke archaeological museum (Archeocentrum Velzeke)

Velzeke archaeological museum (‘Archeocentrum Velzeke’) takes you back through time. Velzeke was an important crossroads of Roman roads. Step into the modern museum and learn about prehistoric times and the Roman period. Encounter our (pre)historic ancestors and admire the silver treasure of Everbeek and the Venus of Velzeke. The kids can don the finest Gallo-Roman costumes during interactive workshops. From time to time professional re-enactors bring the bustling atmosphere of a Roman encampment back to life.

Would you like to travel as the Romans did? Follow the signposted tourist route ‘Via Romana Velzeke-Bavay’ from Velzeke to Bavay archaeological site. Information panels along the route tell you about different aspects of Antiquity. Moreover you can stop at Ath, Aubechies and Bavay to visit interesting archaeological museums.
