Egmont's room

Who exactly was Lamoraal? Discover the fascinating story of Egmont and Zottegem in the Egmont Room of the Town Hall. Historical objects will guide you through the fascinating history of the Count and his time. You will also learn all about the rediscovery of Lamoral's grave and the history of Egmont Castle.

Egmont's compelling life story is also still honored in the adjoining council chamber of the 1862 City Hall. In a shrine, the cleft cervical vertebra of Lamoraal is on display. Be sure to check out the intriguing paintings "Last Tributes to Egmont and Horne" by Louis Gallait (1882) and "The Castle of Egmond aan den Hoef" (circa 1570) by the North Holland master Gillis De Saen.
