The convent of the Penitents

Since 1344 there has been a hospice in the centre of Velzeke whose original purpose was to look after travellers. Later on, it became a hospital and a religious convent. You can read the date ‘1741’ above the entrance door, a date that refers to the year in which the present-day chapel was built. The cloister of this historical site dates back to the 17th and 18th centuries.
