The chapel of Deinsbeke was already a pilgrim site in 1717. Legend has it that a statue of the virgin Mary appeared one day in the Bettelhovebeek or Deinsbeek brook. And it was here in 1743 that the 18th-century scoundrel Jan de Lichte shot at pilgrims. Luckily, nowadays the atmosphere around this neobaroque chapel dating from 1930 is a lot more peaceful…
